[en] Sandra Soler Studio is a flagship interior design studio headed by Sandra Soler. Under the premise of creating spaces that provoke emotions, Sandra and her team state their desire to let themselves be guided by their intuition. They enjoy working in a practical, decisive way, without ever losing sight of the space on which they are working as it has its own personality in itself.
Their work is characterized by the use of natural materials which show the passing of time in the best possible way, always following a philosophy of order and minimalism in the widest concept of the word.
Winner of the 2019 Bulthup award “The kitchen as a living space”, she has carried out an infinite number of projects, from house to offices to restaurants and showrooms. In some of those spaces she has used Viefe® products. That’s why we wanted to talk to her, to find out more about her career trajectory and discover more about her vision as regards the importance of knobs, handles and wall hooks as part of her interior design projects.
First of all, explain to us just what exactly is Sandra Soler Studio.
We are a studio that offers an integral service that includes all the different phases of the design project, from its initial concept through to its execution taking in the design of interiors, the architecture and the landscaping, as well as technical aspects, the final budget and the licenses required. Our objective is to make things much simpler for the customer, looking after everything from the beginning to the end. We can count on an excellent team of external collaborators and trustworthy constructors who allow us to carry out the overall execution of the project and guarantee that everything will turn out as envisaged.
How would you describe your style of interior design?
I am a great believer in the fact that everything should give off an air of order and simplicity. I believe in the use of only a few materials, the most natural ones possible, that age well as time goes by. I like to be able to convert something chaotic into something functional and beautiful at the same time, that guarantees the success of the final result. What we really mean is the improvement of a space to make the people who live there happy.
Which of your projects really stand out as being the most representative?
In terms of residential spaces, la Masia in Osona, which was a project that won the “kitchen as a living space” award. In terms of contracts I am really happy with the end result of the offices at JCM Technologies.
I really like to alternate between projects in both public sector and private sector ambits and for different profiles of clients. Beginning a project that has nothing to do with those that have gone before means new challenges and reinventing yourself in terms of both ideas and excitement.
You’ve carried out some projects using products from Viefe®, for example the Duo Professionals center in Vic. Why did you choose our products?
Because of two clear aspects: the simplicity and the discretion of the design. And also due to the quality offered by Viefe®’s handles.
What are your sources of inspiration when you start to carry out your work?
Sometimes it’s just fortunate information, other times it just arises from artistic sources, trips we’ve taken, people, landscapes…it isn’t easy to find inspiration, but when it’s real it provides you with all the energy you need to carry out a project.
How important are knobs and handles within your projects? And the wall hooks?
I try to make sure that the knobs and the wall hooks are integrated into the design in the most natural way possible. As far as the handles are concerned, I always prefer handles that are integrated as part of the furniture itself. Discretion as regards these accessories forms part of my style.
At the time of choosing knobs, handles and wall hooks, which material do you see as the most preferable?
It depends on each different project, but for example, I don’t like to limit myself to the use of wood. I always prefer natural materials in general.
Any favorite shapes in particular?
I’m always staunchly inclined to go for straight lines.
And color or finish?
It depends on each project, but mostly black or white. As regards the type of finish, I prefer to go for a metallic finish, which always works well, and also for the warmth of a wooden finish.
From the range of knobs, handles and wall hooks at Viefe®, which is your favorite?
I really like the built-in handles such as the Kubic or Radi models. The Switch, Tik or Tok wall hooks are also very well designed in all senses, their aesthetics and functionality are perfect.
What do you believe are the key factors which make a living space welcoming?
In this case it’s something I’m really clear about: the light, order, simplicity and the luxury of the space.
Lastly Sandra, which is your favorite space in your house?
The studio!
